If anyone here happens to be interested in Wuthering Heights, a new comm just began a group read of the book and some really interesting conversations are happening over there! It's been a long time since I read the novel, and I am having a good time revisiting it.

In the words of the administrator, [personal profile] bleodswean, whose brainchild this was:

"Come join us at a new Wuthering Heights community where we are beginning our Wuthering Heights read-a-long and will soon be discussing this complicated novel! Is it really a love story? Is Cathy certifiable? Does Heathcliff have a wounding story that justifies his revenge? Why is everyone so reprehensible? Or are they? Do the children shed the legacy of betrayal and rage?

There might be icon challenges! And fic prompts! And discussions of other writings female and gothic!"

I think I'd rather be taken out and shot than reread *Wuthering Heights* (How does one make the title be in italics?) However--I actually haven't read it since I was 12 or 13 so I might feel differently about as an adult. Oh, it's not that I didn't like it. I adored it then. And I realized later than it had shaped a lot of my ideas about what it was like to be "in love." Insanely passionate. Fraught. Tragic. Then I read *Fountain Head* and *Atlas Shrugged.* I'd already read *Gone with the Wind* and *Jane Eyre.* All of them with insane amounts of passion, miscommunication, and nutso behavior. My ideas of what it meant to be in love were deranged. Well, I'm sure my mother's idiotic love life didn't help and believe me--you don't want to know if and until you know me much better. But I do wish you good luck and much enjoyment in exploring the mad passions of Heathcliff and hmm, was it a Catherine? Yeah, google says it was. (I decided to use my one and only Spike and Angel icon in honor of mad and insane passionate relationships--thought they likely had a lot of love by the time "Angel" ended).
