(no subject)
Nov. 7th, 2024 05:18 pmI am going to have to step up the self-care and healthy living practices. I'm not coming up with the words for much else, so I'm gonna leave it at that.
Today is my birthday.
My mother gave me some very lovely, small notebooks. This is the first acknowledgement she's made of my fannish impulses, as they are the perfect size to fit in my various work aprons and carry in my purse. They all look identical, though, so I either use one at a time or give them covers.

"You like this kind of music?" Says a grizzled older man who walks into my work today.
Music in question: Pearl Jam's 'Even Flow.'
I smile and say it's on my playlist.
"No offense, but you don't look like you like this kind of music."
Presumably because I wear skirts and aprons? Not sure how to take this, I say yes, I do like this kind of music.
He says he likes it too and leaves.
Normally, when I get positive reactions to my playlist, I end up chatting away about the band in question, but this guy really stymied my usual friendly response. It's not even like that song is unknown. It plays on the local classic rock radio, for crying out loud.
In the time it took to type this up, my shuffle has turned up:
Cream - Strange Brew
Morphine - Rope on Fire
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Black Keys - Oceans and Streams
*Shrugs*

Self care, tea edition
Jun. 3rd, 2024 09:36 amI have one cup of black tea every morning (usually earl gray). I don't do coffee and have never gotten any type of energy burst or increase when I have, in desperation, tried the stuff. So tea it has always been. I do enjoy herbal teas when I remember they exist, but I fell out of the habit years ago.
Just took stock of my shelf of herbal teas from the last few years (usually gifted) and... they've been piling up while I wasn't paying attention. Maybe I should try them out?
I'm skipping the medicinal teas, which we use when fighting a cold.
Boxed or bagged tea
Pure Chamomile
Nightly Calm (basically more chamomile, with spearmint and stuff)
Licorice Mint
Honeylemon
Gingerbread Spice
Ginger (so it says, but it's actually a blend with lemongrass and other stuff)
Green tea of some sort? (all lettering is in Chinese)
Edited to add: Missed a plain box with three sets of organic tea hand-packaged in Taos, NM, to wit:
Ginger Spice
Woodland Walk (black tea with vanilla, cedar tips, pink peppercorn and a ton of other stuff)
High Desert Sage (sage, cinnamon, peppermint, lavender)
Loose tea jars
Rooibos chai
Rose hips
Red clover
I used to do a lot of cooking and baking, but these days I'm mostly in a "keep my head above water" place and make simple meals. I have no idea what's on my shelves and should start looking into that, but that project will have to wait for when I have more energy and emotional bandwidth. Adding a second cup of tea to the day seems like an easier task.
