The Prisoner as metaphor

I am two episodes away from finishing The Prisoner. The grandaddy of all weird cult TV shows. I should really have watched it years ago, and it's oddly comforting to me currently. I had to get away from shows I was currently watching when David passed,* and this, with its hero stripped from an understandable existence with no means of getting back to it no matter what he tries, has really worked for me.

This is obviously not the usual metaphoric lense for this particular show, but I'll take it.

I'll have more practical thoughts on the show as a whole soon.



*Obviously not forever, just really needing a break before I try to carry on.

I would love to hear more of your thoughts on The Prisoner. We just finished season 2 of Severance, which felt like it had some definite Prisoner inspiration. The Prisoner was a truly inspired show.

It was indeed remarkable, especially given how many shows have picked up and run with mindscrew concepts since then. I have been consistently impressed with how unpredictable it actually is. There's also something admirable in the purity of its themes, and how it refuses to stray into distracting subplots.

It's also extremely beautiful to look at, which I was not expecting going in.

I have heard such good things about Severance and it sounds satisfyingly strange. It even got a DVD release of season one, upping my chances of eventually seeing it.

I actually wanted to get my thoughts on it posted today, but I ended up in a prolonged game of phone tag with my mother and her locksmith, so... Fun. Now I'm at work. But I will try again one of these days.
