Snowflake Challenge #12
Jan. 25th, 2026 12:20 pmChallenge #12
Make an appreciation post to those who enhance your fandom life.
I really owe so much to fandom. Without it, I would be in a very different and much lonelier place today. This exercise in appreciation will be under a cut.
To
killabeez, who was the very first person I met in fandom. Whose vid Woodstock motivated me to make my first comment on AO3. Who introduced me to Dreamwidth. Who was my first commenter and cheerleader and fandom friend, who convinced me that this was the place for me. Who has helped me problem-solve plot and character arcs, and is an amazing beta. Who has introduced me to fantastic sleeper television shows and the greatest punk-rock movie ever made. Who enables swarming plotbunnies and convinced me it was a good idea to ship Duncan MacLeod with Brian Cullen. Who is just as insane about Jeremiah as I am, and who loves every character except Devon (as it should be). Who changed the entire trajectory of my creative and social life.
To
havocthecat, who has been the most incredible friend and sympathetic ear and advisor. Who is always ready to listen and chime in with my rambling meta about vampire shows and supernatural teen dramas. Who wholeheartedly supports my love for unsung female characters and dumbass teenagers and emotional cripples. Who encourages and feeds my plotbunnies. Who once left me a comment so long it broke the AO3 word limit. Who did a fencing beta on two Jeremiah ficlets, despite not knowing the fandom, and drastically improved both of them (which I will post soon, I promise!). Who convinced me it's okay to go dark and write some completely fucked-up shit and to walk tall anyway.
To all the people I met through the great, the legendary,
hlh_shortcuts. Who made (and still make) me feel welcome, even when I'm in a Highlander writing drought. Who helped me learn how to write for a gift exchange, and to navigate a Discord server (shout out to all the friendly Highlander folk who hang out there, as well!). Who demonstrated what it's like to be in an active, comfortable, drama-free fandom, and made Highlander the ideal Goldilocks fandom for this very reason. You guys set the bar high! Special thanks to
teratornis, who was my very first beta and whose skill with tutorials had me learning how to share on Google Docs like a pro, and who is just unfailingly friendly and thoughtful.
To my two frequent commenters on my insane Ghost Impulses series (who aren't on DW, as far as I know, so will probably never see this). One leaves long unhinged comments on each new chapter, and one leaves super short unhinged comments on each new chapter, and every time I expect to lose them through the slowness of my updates, they always show up again. They inspire me to keep pushing forward, to stay on target and make this overlong angst-fest work. ♥
To all my other commenters, recurring or solo, who have taken time out of their day to let me know I wrote something which resonated, and to all the fic authors out there who have replied when I leave comments on their work. Who lift my spirits when I feel adrift and make me feel like I have a meaningful ability to affect the world with kindness.
And to everyone on my Reading List, who have reached out when I was struggling, who have shared their thoughts, sympathy and advice. Who have fostered conversations, whether on my journal or their own, and encouraged me to come out of my shell. Who have put shows, films, songs or books on my radar through posting about them with such commitment. Who give me a place on the internet that feels welcoming.
You make a difference and I'm glad you're here.
A warm thank you to each and every one of you.

Date: 2026-01-26 02:22 am (UTC)I love that I got to write for you last shortcuts with a combination of prompts and stealth pairings that ended up having one that was exactly what you were looking for. (Surprise to me, but a happy surprise!) And whenever you post those Jeremiah fics, I can't wait to see them. Or the rest of them! I'm so behind on my fic-reading, but excited to get to them when I can.
It's great to be friends! And I'm glad

Thank you for the thoughtful words! ❤️
