Snowflake Challenge #5
Jan. 15th, 2026 06:57 amAlright, I was given an idea of how to make this challenge more psychologically acceptable to myself, and that is Fic Rec Requests. I recently discovered that I can organize my AO3 bookmarks, with little annotations to jog my memory and with bookmarker tags which enable me to sort them by baseline mood and format. Once everything was indexed, "plot" turned out to be my winning tag, with "character study" right behind.
And I finally reached one hundred bookmarks! So what better way to inaugurate the next hundred than by asking for recommendations!
Challenge #5
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.
Rating from G to M is great, gen or shippy is fine. I am not very fond of complete AUs (canon divergence is great).
1. Buffyverse recs. I like pretty much every character, and the myriad moods of the shows, so hit me up with whatever you think is good. Stuff dealing with consequences from show events. Wackiness. Missing scenes. Interactions between people who scarcely or never did so in canon.
2. Teen Wolf. All the above applies, but please, no Sterek and no Magical McMuffin Stiles.
3. Highlander. Especially if it deals with secondary or one-shot characters.
4. Fanvids (any fandom). Fanvids are really hard to stumble over in the wild, and they are an absolute joy, even if I know nothing about the fandom.
Thanks in advance! My completionist self is now happy.

Date: 2026-01-15 03:29 pm (UTC)If so, please allow me to recommend this The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword fanvid to "Holding Out For a Hero" by WisdomGoddessNayru (posted 13 years ago). It is the most touching-to-me TLOZ fanvid I have so far discovered, and I have been debating for months whether I can recommend it on the rec comms I know, where vids are not the usual fare. The vidder unfolds her chosen angle on the game's story, arguing her interpretation, seamlessly in chronological order, perfectly matching the song. The in chronological order choice might be lost on a non-fan, but, then again, maybe it would be even more apparent? This isn't the game's whole story by a long chalk; this isn't even all its main characters; but the vid makes the audience feel that it is, that this is a story fully complete unto itself and that the vidder's interpretation is utterly convincing.
I know that animation fanvids aren't always considered true fanvids in some circles, but until the TLOZ live-action movie comes out next year ;-) gameplay footage -- or fan illustrations; I have seen some hand-drawn animatic vids -- is all we have with which to vid.

Date: 2026-01-15 06:02 pm (UTC)I don't really consider myself much of a fanvid collector, but y'know, it seems I have a handful of good ones saved.
-Starships is an old fave. Multi-fandom, song has some profanity. Just a very fun tribute to sci-fi in general.
-Banshee, a really wonderfully edited Into the Spiderverse video. Amazing rhythm in this one.
-I Am Not Him. Not sure how much emotional impact this will have without prior lore knowledge, but this is my favorite Guild Wars video ever.
-Literally anything by Voordeel. Absolutely incredible editing work.
And some fic:
-If you haven't checked out Icarus-Chained's Highlander stories, holy shit. Particularly enjoy He Commands, Who Is Commanded, The Child With Bloody Feet, and The Jewel in Heaven's Eye.
-Poetry, Prophecy, and Religion, possibly my favorite Cassandra-focused story. That author also has a bunch of other really excellent stuff.
