Trauma bonding. This refers to yet another subset of abuse dynamics, wherein trauma is used to create a bond with the abuser.

Not, as I thought, two or more traumatized people bonding over their horrific experiences.

Huh -- I too am surprised. Trauma bonding seems covered by Stockholm Syndrome.

I know, right? It feels like a distinction without a difference, and the sheer number of people using the term wrongly, yet intuitively, shows there is a need for this particular dynamic to be named. I tried to see if there was an official term for bonding through shared traumas, but it doesn't appear to be coined - hence people using trauma bonding "incorrectly."

It does make sense as constituted. Everyone who reads my tag will know what it means, after all. The English language bends wonderfully when needed...
