I received my HLH Shortcuts gift much more quickly than I had anticipated, and I am still stunned by it.

The Art of Abjuration (5,318 words, walking the fine line between gen and something more)

It's multi-chapter. It's full to the brim with plot and backstory and emotional conflict. It's got a wild sense of humor and impeccable style. It's got a delicious dash of so many favorites of mine, with the main course of Tessa and Amanda alternating viewpoints. There's UST. There's grace. The ending is perfect. The beginning is perfect. The journey from one state to the other is just delightful in every sense.

I spent four and a half hours reading it, mostly because I'm a painfully slow commenter, but every chapter got read twice over before I even started typing. When called upon to make dinner in the middle of the story, did I grab kielbasa from the fridge and fry it up because it was the fastest possible meal to prepare? Absolutely of course.

I have Very Strong Suspicions of who wrote this story for me. Whether correct or not, I have no idea how this writer managed to read me so well, especially when I flailed around so badly while trying to make my requests coherent. I got something I didn't even know how much I wanted.

It has been hell not commenting. ABSOLUTE GODDAMN HELL. I took a look at your prompts, sat down, read them again, picked and chose which pieces from each I could reasonably cohere into a single (delightful!) story, and then I started writing and let things happen.

I swear, if I could have shoehorned everyone you mentioned in your prompts into the fic, I would have. Only I was trying not to turn this into a 10k epic, because, well, I had a limited amount of time. Life was happening for me around my writing. I had a whole trip to Circe's island planned, for example, but I had to scrap that in favor of what I ultimately think was a better culmination to the plot.

I am absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed it so much.
