Seen via
argentum_ls and amazingly, finally, a meme I can actually do. Yay for me! And I did scribble my five shows before I read the questions. :)
TV questions: pick your five favourite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don’t cheat!
I went in the order they sprang to mind, either as firm favorites or as shows which I have written fic for.
Given I squeak incoherently and start calling her a goddess whenever she shows up, it has to be Erin. She appears, is hyper-competent, is background even when she's in the foreground and I stare at the screen, enraptured. I am way too invested in her, and refuse to accept sad!Erin as endgame in any reality.
I had to dig deep into the recurring characters list before I found somebody I couldn't even love to hate. This show even made me like Andrew! I debated picking Groo, because I can't stand his early episodes, but I do genuinely sympathize with him by the end of his run, poor guy. So I'm going with Knox. I don't like Knox.
Unless I have to pick from the core cast? Then I would be forced to choose... Uh... Lorne? I prefer Knox. The best thing about him is that he died.
Surprising nobody who knows me, 'Courage.'
Hard choice to make, they're all so good and in such different ways. But I suspect my heart belongs to season 1. It's where I fell in love with the show, and it leans so heavily on philosophical problems from the very start. Plus, it's the most invested in exploring the post-apocalyptic part of the tale.
If it wasn't blindingly obvious already, that would be Lydia Martin/Peter Hale - and I just realized this qualifies as the luckiest dark ship I've ever gone for, as both of them manage to survive the show. Messed up perfection.
Markus/Erin. I love them both dearly, but not together. My soul shrivels when I watch their dinner dance. Markus is awful to Erin, though not intentionally. He's trying to be honest, and then he chickens out and strings her along, because he's out of his depth (and quite possibly asexual), so of course he bungles it and it's really, really sad. Meanwhile, Erin needs to get over him yesterday and find somebody who wants her and go be the queen of her own kingdom because she deserves everything and instead she's clinging to a dream even as it recedes from her grasp and I want to go set something on fire.
Around eleven years, I think? I didn't keep close track. Saw season one, meant to keep going, it fell by the wayside during a big move. When I started over a year or two later, I fell hard. For a while, watching the complete Buffy/Angel was a yearly tradition and I liked Angel more each go round.
This is the least interesting show to draw this question. There is no story here, or even a recommendation. I literally started watching it on a whim, because it looked terrible and I figured I could boot it from my watchlist, but instead I laughed a lot. Watched the second episode, laughed some more, and I basically chased those laughs until I suddenly realized I deeply cared about the characters.
Tough choice. The entire core cast are gems who cover so much emotional ground. Adrian Paul carries the show, Peter Wingfield is amazing, and yet... I think I'm going with Jim Byrnes. The show hit the jackpot with him and his performance is incredibly human.
For sheer inspiration and joy of character, it would be Jeremiah - and the concrete lifechanging results of that inspiration guarantee it the victory, but I love them all. For perfection of tragic storytelling, I'd go with Angel, which I've seen the most times. For perfection of structure and ethical quandaries, I'd go with 12 Monkeys, which was so good I wrote episode reviews as I watched. They all have something special, they've all made me cry, so why choose except on current mood?
Given I've watched Angel four or five times without skipping anything, easy question to answer.
This question is strange and I would like to politely decline, because almost everybody suffered or died on this show. However, I guess I'd pick Michelle Webster. She has minimal trauma and a decent potential future.
LOL, everybody died on that show. My favorite was Wesley, and Wesley died, and it was perfectly awful, thank you very much. Would not change it. Although he's totally getting fished out of whatever purgatory dimension he got dumped in by Fred-Illyria, who will not rest until she's retrieved him.
Given my favorites on most shows tend to die, the reverse of this question would be far more useful to me.
"Right between the clowns and the big talking hot dog."
This was literally the first thing that came to mind. I was hoping for something more profound.
Everything works with Highlander. Also, the supernaturals on Teen Wolf are more discreet than the ones on Buffy, so a crossover would have less trouble merging the canons. Plus, there are kitsune on Teen Wolf, who can live for thousands of years, wield the power of electricity and sometimes use swords, which raises some questions I would love somebody to tackle.
It's been too long since my last rewatch... Okay, they had shiptease for all of one episode, and nobody remembers her, but I really liked Angel/Gwen. I thought they had potential. She could start his heart beating, he could withstand her killer electrical shocks. They could have made it work.
Or for two people who barely interacted, how about former daddy's rich girls Cordelia/Virginia?
Yes, guilt me some more about not having written any fic for this magnificent show.
I'll go to hell for this, but I'm picking Teen Wolf. The cast of 12 Monkeys does amazing things, and every single one of them nail what are far more challenging roles than anything on Jeff Davis' hottest of hot messes, but the writing of 12 Monkeys is so strong that even if the entire cast was switched out, I feel like the show would on some level survive. But Teen Wolf was carried by its actors and their ability to charm. Take that away and roll the dice on different faces? I don't think lightning is striking twice here.
I take it this just means opening and closing credits, not the entire score? However, it still depends. Do I have to count all themes? If so, Queen kicks ass.
However, I maintain Jeremiah has only one theme and a mistake from the sound editor which nobody caught in time. I usually press mute and play the proper, haunting, oh so fitting theme in my head when I watch season two. I love it. If I could make it my phone's ringtone, I totally would. I'd never answer my phone in a timely fashion, but so be it.
If anyone wants me to answer any of these questions with a different show in the slot, feel free. This was fun!

TV questions: pick your five favourite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don’t cheat!
- Angel (1999)
- Jeremiah (2002)
- Teen Wolf (2011)
- Highlander (1992)
- 12 Monkeys (2015)
I went in the order they sprang to mind, either as firm favorites or as shows which I have written fic for.
1) Who’s your favourite character in 2 (Jeremiah)?
Given I squeak incoherently and start calling her a goddess whenever she shows up, it has to be Erin. She appears, is hyper-competent, is background even when she's in the foreground and I stare at the screen, enraptured. I am way too invested in her, and refuse to accept sad!Erin as endgame in any reality.
2) Who’s your least favourite character in 1 (Angel)?
I had to dig deep into the recurring characters list before I found somebody I couldn't even love to hate. This show even made me like Andrew! I debated picking Groo, because I can't stand his early episodes, but I do genuinely sympathize with him by the end of his run, poor guy. So I'm going with Knox. I don't like Knox.
Unless I have to pick from the core cast? Then I would be forced to choose... Uh... Lorne? I prefer Knox. The best thing about him is that he died.
3) What’s your favourite episode of 4 (Highlander)?
Surprising nobody who knows me, 'Courage.'
4) What’s your favourite season of 5 (12 Monkeys)?
Hard choice to make, they're all so good and in such different ways. But I suspect my heart belongs to season 1. It's where I fell in love with the show, and it leans so heavily on philosophical problems from the very start. Plus, it's the most invested in exploring the post-apocalyptic part of the tale.
5) What’s your favourite ship in 3 (Teen Wolf)?
If it wasn't blindingly obvious already, that would be Lydia Martin/Peter Hale - and I just realized this qualifies as the luckiest dark ship I've ever gone for, as both of them manage to survive the show. Messed up perfection.
6) Who is your anti-ship in 2 (Jeremiah)?
Markus/Erin. I love them both dearly, but not together. My soul shrivels when I watch their dinner dance. Markus is awful to Erin, though not intentionally. He's trying to be honest, and then he chickens out and strings her along, because he's out of his depth (and quite possibly asexual), so of course he bungles it and it's really, really sad. Meanwhile, Erin needs to get over him yesterday and find somebody who wants her and go be the queen of her own kingdom because she deserves everything and instead she's clinging to a dream even as it recedes from her grasp and I want to go set something on fire.
7) How long have you watched 1 (Angel)?
Around eleven years, I think? I didn't keep close track. Saw season one, meant to keep going, it fell by the wayside during a big move. When I started over a year or two later, I fell hard. For a while, watching the complete Buffy/Angel was a yearly tradition and I liked Angel more each go round.
8) How did you become interested in 3 (Teen Wolf)?
This is the least interesting show to draw this question. There is no story here, or even a recommendation. I literally started watching it on a whim, because it looked terrible and I figured I could boot it from my watchlist, but instead I laughed a lot. Watched the second episode, laughed some more, and I basically chased those laughs until I suddenly realized I deeply cared about the characters.
9) Who’s your favourite actor in 4 (Highlander)?
Tough choice. The entire core cast are gems who cover so much emotional ground. Adrian Paul carries the show, Peter Wingfield is amazing, and yet... I think I'm going with Jim Byrnes. The show hit the jackpot with him and his performance is incredibly human.
10) Which show do you prefer? 1 (Angel), 2 (Jeremiah), or 5 (12 Monkeys)?
For sheer inspiration and joy of character, it would be Jeremiah - and the concrete lifechanging results of that inspiration guarantee it the victory, but I love them all. For perfection of tragic storytelling, I'd go with Angel, which I've seen the most times. For perfection of structure and ethical quandaries, I'd go with 12 Monkeys, which was so good I wrote episode reviews as I watched. They all have something special, they've all made me cry, so why choose except on current mood?
11) Which show have you seen more episodes of; 1 (Angel) or 3 (Teen Wolf)?
Given I've watched Angel four or five times without skipping anything, easy question to answer.
12) If you could be anyone from 4 (Highlander), who would you be?
This question is strange and I would like to politely decline, because almost everybody suffered or died on this show. However, I guess I'd pick Michelle Webster. She has minimal trauma and a decent potential future.
13) How would you kill off your favourite character in 1 (Angel)?
LOL, everybody died on that show. My favorite was Wesley, and Wesley died, and it was perfectly awful, thank you very much. Would not change it. Although he's totally getting fished out of whatever purgatory dimension he got dumped in by Fred-Illyria, who will not rest until she's retrieved him.
Given my favorites on most shows tend to die, the reverse of this question would be far more useful to me.
14) Give a random quote from 1 (Angel).
"Right between the clowns and the big talking hot dog."
This was literally the first thing that came to mind. I was hoping for something more profound.
15) Would a 3 (Teen Wolf)/4 (Highlander) crossover work?
Everything works with Highlander. Also, the supernaturals on Teen Wolf are more discreet than the ones on Buffy, so a crossover would have less trouble merging the canons. Plus, there are kitsune on Teen Wolf, who can live for thousands of years, wield the power of electricity and sometimes use swords, which raises some questions I would love somebody to tackle.
16) Pair two characters in 1 (Angel) that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple.
17) Has 5 (12 Monkeys) inspired you in any way?
Yes, guilt me some more about not having written any fic for this magnificent show.
18) Overall, which show has a better cast? 3 (Teen Wolf) or 5 (12 Monkeys)?
I'll go to hell for this, but I'm picking Teen Wolf. The cast of 12 Monkeys does amazing things, and every single one of them nail what are far more challenging roles than anything on Jeff Davis' hottest of hot messes, but the writing of 12 Monkeys is so strong that even if the entire cast was switched out, I feel like the show would on some level survive. But Teen Wolf was carried by its actors and their ability to charm. Take that away and roll the dice on different faces? I don't think lightning is striking twice here.
19) Which has better theme music, 2 (Jeremiah) or 4 (Highlander)?
I take it this just means opening and closing credits, not the entire score? However, it still depends. Do I have to count all themes? If so, Queen kicks ass.
However, I maintain Jeremiah has only one theme and a mistake from the sound editor which nobody caught in time. I usually press mute and play the proper, haunting, oh so fitting theme in my head when I watch season two. I love it. If I could make it my phone's ringtone, I totally would. I'd never answer my phone in a timely fashion, but so be it.
