Introductory Post

annavereI thought it might be helpful to any curious souls if I had one of these welcome mat sticky posts that I have seen elsewhere.
My journal title stems from the Edwin Muir poem 'The Labyrinth.'
I'd be prisoned there
But that my soul has birdwings to fly free.
I only discovered fandom in 2021, and am still eagerly learning how it works. DW and AO3 (I'm there under the same name Annavere) track the full extent of my social life. I do have a Discord account, but I still don't know what to do with it at present. I am newly on Tumblr as well. The only posts I have ever access-locked were portions of rough draft, and I haven't done that for a while now - so basically, if we talk for a bit and get along I'm pretty much certain to put you on the access list.
Personal info: I live in a rural area on the east coast of the US, with a guy and a cat. Fairly low-tech lifestyle. I rarely discuss my real life here, partly because I got into fandom after some heavy personal losses and this place is my refuge. I use this journal very much as an escape and respite from difficulty, so unless it in some way impacts or influences my fannish existence, I mostly leave all that at the door.
Frequent topics are the television shows I watch, which skew heavily toward sci fi and fantasy with a ton of loose threads hanging (often from cancellation). Such shows have greater scope for worldbuilding and are my preferred choice for writing fic. I went through a long stretch of time where I watched very little television, and am catching up on all that good stuff I missed now, so it's extremely rare for me to watch anything truly recent with such a vast backlog to work through. I love getting recommendations!
I also use this journal to keep track of my works in progress and talk about my writing. My main fandom is the 2002 post-apocalyptic show Jeremiah which very few people now remember. It's what got me writing fanfic and later brought me to fandom - literally, I got my AO3 account in order to comment on a Jeremiah vid and things mushroomed from there. I have since branched out to Highlander as well. I'll be adding more fandoms to the list eventually, but I'm not the fastest writer, so it might take longer than I would like.
Other topics likely to appear in this journal: Shows related to various current and planned works in progress (12 Monkeys, American Gothic, Buffy, Angel, Miracles, Dollhouse and Brimstone).
