WIP Report

Part four of Written on the Mirror is on the shelf, clocking in at 21,619 words for the present (so a little shorter than part three). There weren't really any plot holes this time, but the way I constructed Mirror made this fourth installment the only genuinely episodic sequence, so I ended up tossing a lot of day in the life type material in here because it wouldn't fit later on. This created so many odds and ends that I had to take the whole thing apart, reconfigure the timeline and stitch it back together in a slightly altered order so that everything still fit and it might have some approximation of dramatic flow.

I added several brand new scenes, and it took twice as long to complete as I had been hoping it would, but I'm calling it good enough for now.

I'll be reconfiguring part five next, but I'm taking a needed break first. Maybe I can learn how to write something short.

A question:

For one of the short ideas I have, I've been sketching out concepts for a series of vignettes featuring Erin teaching swordfighting to some of the other characters - set pre, post or during canon depending on what makes the most sense to me. I've toyed with a few ideas for the Lee segment but keep returning to the lovely comment piece you wrote, where Lee offers to accompany Erin to the east. I am wondering (if you have no current plans for it) if I could make that into the Lee scene for this project?

Also, as you mentioned the idea of a collaboration at the time, would you be interested in contributing in any way?

Well, that sounds wonderful! On all counts. Absolutely, that idea is yours for the taking/changing/etc. And sure, that sounds like something I'd love to be a part of. ♥

Thank you! It's still in early stages, but I'm hopeful it won't be too great a time commitment. I've got a few fragments written, and some notes, but a fair amount is up in the air. Kurdy, for instance. I can easily picture him after Four Roads, reading The Three Musketeers or something, and deciding he wants to learn the art. Erin would be entirely agreeable to the idea. But what might they discuss or resolve over a duel?

Since I haven't had the opportunity of working together with someone, I don't know if there are guidelines I should be aware of? Or is it more just bouncing ideas back and forth? It's a learning curve for me, so forgive any confusion.
