White Collar plotbunny
Mar. 25th, 2024 09:45 pmWatched a couple episodes and got surprised by John Pyper Ferguson in a walk-on villain role - in which he again sported completely different mannerisms (and a suit!). This coincided with a bizarre genre swerve into ghoulish Edgar Allan Poe crime that I really wish the episode had devoted itself to, because THAT would have been fun. Not that the episode wasn't fun - I mean, Neal accidentally impersonated a hitman. But despite Neal referencing 'The Tell-Tale Heart,' said walk-on villain didn't even get a guilty breakdown scene. Instead, the whole "corpse in the cellar" stolen-identity twist was tossed off in two minutes and the majority of the episode went to introducing recurring character Sara Ellis. Damn.
And a White Collar/Poe "New York gothic" mashup would be... Well, I'd read it. I mean, Neal's already got his lost Lenore, so he's good to go. Mozzie spends the whole episode cadging wine, so there's a 'Cask of Amontillado' plot waiting for him (obviously with a 'Pit and the Pendulum' timely rescue at the end). They could go to a mansion to investigate an art acquisition or something and run smack into the 'Fall of the House of Usher.' They could grow ever more confused as their cases get weirder and weirder with no explanation.
I'm not sure there's any human reason for such a story to exist and I'm pretty sure I'd never be able to write it, although it would give me a reason to seriously brush up on my Poe...
